Tough Week For Amazon But I Still Love This Company
It has been a tough week for Amazon but this is still a great company. If you look at what they’ve done with EC2 and S3 – it’s pretty amazing. I equate this problem to when MSFT had to stand down the company to address security. MSFT became a better company because of this exercise. The same will happen with Amazon. This is a company of extremely smart people who will get this problem fixed and then continue to build on the great innovation that they have fostered in the cloud space.
At least my application maintains state when there is a problem at Amazon unlike another major cloud provider in the market today.
Keep your head-up guys – I love your service.
Number of Cloud Applications Continues to Increase
Microsoft now reports that it has 31,000 customers using Azure, Heroku (now owned by Salesforce) is reporting 123,342 applications running on their platform. It’s hard to tell how many applications that Amazon has running on EC2 but in last years CIO magazine it was reported that they were provisioning 50K EC2 server instances per day. That would mean something like 18M EC2 servers per year. All of this points to the need for more network bandwidth and new programing models that allow developers to get closer to the packets. This is our goal with Junos Space. Regardless of whether you program in Java, .NET, Ruby, C/C++, etc – we provide a means for you to build new and compelling network aware applications using Junos Space.
